In 2007, high
school teacher Eunita Harper-Winkey was inspired by a former student who she raised as her daughter, as well as her students
at Washington-Lee High and Yorktown High Schools to pursue her purpose in life, which is to give back and help others in need.
Mrs. Winkey believes in mentoring students both in and outside of the classroom. As a result, Mrs. Winkey
is the Founder/President of ATWINDS Foundation, Inc. (A Teacher’s Work Is Never Done Services). ATWINDS’
purpose is to foster children and their families to assist them in becoming productive citizens of society.
ATWINDS was one
of 21 Maryland companies that were nominated for the 2007 Maryland Business Philanthropy Awards. The annual
awards program is a joint effort between the Maryland Chamber of Commerce and the Baltimore Business Journal to recognize
Maryland businesses that have demonstrated a commitment to improving the quality of life for residents of the state through
their philanthropic efforts. ATWINDS was nominated for this coveted award due to the relocation of a disabled
Hurricane Katrina survivor from Baltimore, Maryland to Rocky Mount, North Carolina through ATWINDS’ Hurricane Katrina
project. The Rocky Mount Telegram also named her “Good Samaritan” due to this splendid
accomplishment.
Mrs. Winkey has served as a panelist at several Hysterectomy Education Resource conferences. In
addition, she has attended a number of health care electronic medical records conferences, and coordinated and presented Medical
Records Awareness seminars at area churches. She was selected as “Who’s Who Among America’s
Teachers” in 2005-2006, and received the “Foundation for Home and Community Children Advocacy Award” and
“Foundation for Home and Community Paperwork Award” in 2005 and 2006, respectively. She has
also been a guest on Reverend Dr. Barbara Reynolds talk radio show, Reynolds Rap.
Mrs. Winkey received a Masters
degree in Administration and Supervision from George Mason University and a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration
from Saint Augustine’s College. Mrs. Winkey has taught at a number of at-risk high schools in Loudoun
County, Virginia; Virginia and Edgecombe County, North Carolina. She has also served as an Adjunct Business
Instructor at the College of Southern Maryland and as intern Elementary Assistant Principal. She is currently
a Business Teacher in Arlington County, Virginia.
Mrs. Winkey is a member of the
National Education Association and the Maryland Chamber of Commerce. She is a member of Victory Chapel Church in
Accokeek, Maryland, teaches in the Children’s Ministry, and sings in the Praise and Worship Ministry. A
native of Rocky Mount, North Carolina, Mrs. Winkey resides in Pomfret, Maryland with her husband, son and daughter.
